This month, we’re pleased to spotlight Ben Hanson, who was recently promoted from Chief Corporate Development Officer & General Counsel to Chief Operating Officer at Giving Home. In his newly expanded leadership role, Ben continues to guide Giving’s operations with clarity and purpose while bringing a wealth of experience — and a heart for people — to everything he does.
Ben’s career began in corporate law, focusing on business transactions and M&A. Over time, he transitioned from advising companies to leading them directly, holding roles such as CEO, President, COO, and General Counsel before joining Giving Home in 2022. “I’ve had the privilege of working at the intersection of business, law, and public policy,” shares Ben. “But what drew me to Giving Home was the mission.” Having personal experience with health journeys (like so many often do), Ben believes it’s rare to find a company in this industry where purpose and performance align so closely.
In both his previous and most recent roles, no two days are alike. From finance and contract reviews to communication strategy and compliance discussions alongside Alan Marks, Ben balances a wide range of responsibilities. He has also spent a portion of the last nine months supporting the launch and growth of GivingHME, our new home medical equipment division for EEOICPA recipients. Ben remains closely involved in the continued success of HME as he now steps into a broader role leading Giving Home’s operations. His focus on that front? Growing with purpose: aligning teams, implementing better tools, and always putting patients first.
When asked about his motivation, Ben shares that it’s the people — both within and beyond the organization — that get him out of bed each day. One of his most memorable experiences so far at Giving Home involved visiting Patient Adelaide and his wife just outside of Santa Fe. [The patient’s wife] was in her 80s, and Chris, the admissions coordinator, spent three hours patiently walking her through every aspect of the caregiver experience. “It was a masterclass in empathy and professionalism,” recalls Ben. “That moment captured exactly why this work matters.”
The culture at Giving Home is, in Ben’s words, “resilient, mission-driven, and evolving.” Through there has been a significant amount of change over the course of the last three years, he recognizes a shared sense of humility and a relentless commitment to improvement. As a leader himself, Ben also credits Giving Home for deepening his understanding of what servant leadership can be. In particular, the recent building of GivingHME (which he compares to riding a rollercoaster while laying the track) has provided an example of how grace, support, and teamwork can build something exceptional even under pressure. Looking ahead, he’s eager to build deeper relationships and learn from Senior Vice Presidents of Operations, Samantha Coelho and Chandra Crawford, as well as the Executive Directors leading our local offices across the country.
Ben has been married for 25 years to his wife Kristen. He’s a proud dad to four kids (Jackson, 21, Harrison, 20, Hardin, 19 and Kennedy, 16) as well as two big Labrador retrievers, Tank and Daisy. Outside of work, Ben is a fan of University of Texas football, and a follower of all things related to politics or generative AI.
To the Giving team, he shares this simple but powerful reminder: “Our work matters more than we sometimes realize. Whether you’re on the phone, in the field, or behind the scenes, you’re part of someone’s care story. That’s a privilege — and it’s worth showing up for every single day.”
