Employee Spotlight: Austin Younger

This month, we’re excited to spotlight Austin Younger, a Billing Lead at our Las Vegas office. In just over three years with Giving Home Health Care, Austin has evolved from a general billing coordinator to a trusted supervisor known for his attention to detail, commitment to his team, and passion for improving processes that impact patients and caregivers.

Before Giving Home, Austin spent time at another home health care company, handling billing and payroll and building a foundation of expertise. But his journey back to healthcare wasn’t straightforward. In 2019, Austin returned to Las Vegas to be closer to family. He needed work and found a position at Amazon, where he stayed for four years. When he came across an Indeed listing for Giving Home, Austin didn’t expect much. “It’s just another home health care company, I’m not going to get a call,” he thought. But the call did come, and it changed everything. Suddenly, he was back doing the work he loved: supporting patients and caregivers while building processes that made everyone’s lives easier. “It was a big blessing for me,” he shares.

Over the course of three years, Austin’s role has evolved significantly. Through staffing changes and shifts in departmental approach, he’s learned to reconcile issues as they arise and support his team through challenging moments. As a supervisor, the most important thing for Austin is making sure his team feels safe and supported. Though he used to lean into more of an “old school” work ethic, over time he realized that a softer, more positive approach goes a long way with others. Austin has also grown considerably in public speaking. While he’d never had trouble with presentations in his personal life or previous work environments, Giving Home posed a new challenge: the opportunity to address larger, more professional audiences during orientations and trainings. Rising to that challenge pushed him out of his comfort zone and helped him develop a valuable new skill.

When it comes to his team, Austin appreciates their work ethic and initiative. He never needs to micromanage anyone and knows he can trust them to get the job done. “I thank them pretty much on a weekly basis for making my life easier,” he laughs. “There’s always a million things to think about, so not having to worry about the work getting done well is amazing.” For Austin and his team, there’s a wide range of knowledge and learning that goes into making things run smoothly for Giving Home. Austin believes that home healthcare is constantly changing and evolving, which he personally finds exciting. He recently started medical coding school, which will give him even more depth and understanding for both his day-to-day responsibilities and beyond.

What draws Austin to his work is the opportunity to get into the details. He loves digging into the back-end systems, understanding the reasoning behind processes, and finding ways to standardize workflows that ultimately benefit patients and caregivers. It’s the kind of behind-the-scenes work that keeps operations running smoothly. But he also treasures the occasional face-to-face moments with patients. Last December, while delivering holiday gifts, he stopped by the home of a couple who are both on service with Giving Home. What was meant to be a quick visit turned into an hour and a half of conversation and genuine connection. Even though he had more deliveries to make, Austin stayed, enjoying the joy of that unexpected interaction. He’s already looking forward to checking in with them again.

Outside of work, Austin loves spending time with his four-year-old son, Blake. Their shared love of adventure frequently takes them on road trips across the Southwest. They’ll wake up early on a Saturday, load up a cooler, and head towards Utah, Arizona, or wherever the open road leads. “It might sound simple,” he shares, “but just being in the car and being together is some of the most fun I have with my family.” Austin also makes it a point to stay active, regularly logging three to four miles of walking or hiking each day. For anyone visiting Las Vegas, he recommends Turtlehead Peak, a challenging hike in Red Rock Canyon, where you’ll find unmatched views of the city below.

Thank you, Austin, for your dedication, leadership, and commitment to making processes better for everyone. We’re proud you’re part of the Giving Home family!
